Sinopec und internationale Partner starten Initiative zur Förderung der weltweiten CCUS-Zusammenarbeit

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (HKG: 0386, "Sinopec") has joined with the International CCUS Technology Cooperation Organization, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Institute of New Materials and Energy Technologies of Nazarbayev University to launch the Low-Carbon Energy Development Cooperation Initiative. The initiative was announced during the 2026 International CCUS Technology Conference, held in Astana on September 1 and 2, and calls for closer collaboration on CCUS technologies and standards, as well as more intensive exchanges among CCUS professionals. The launch event was attended by representatives from governments, industry, and international organizations from China, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. The conference brought together more than 230 participants from dozens of countries and regions to discuss carbon dioxide capture, geological storage, CO₂ mineralization, and the establishment of CCUS hubs. Attendees also addressed the business models, policy frameworks, and international partnerships needed for wider deployment. Tian Hongbin, Vice President of Sinopec Group, stated that global climate change response has entered a critical phase, with CCUS becoming a key technology. Sinopec has participated in the establishment of ICTO and will continue to support its development as a global network of leading experts, as well as deepen international cooperation across the CCUS sector, he added. Sinopec has built China's first 100-kilometer-long dense-phase CO₂ pipeline and commissioned the country's first integrated CCUS demonstration project with an annual capacity of one million tons. Furthermore, the company is conducting a study on China's first 10-million-ton scale, freely accessible CCUS cluster with Shell, BASF, and China Baowu, while also preparing a 1-million-ton capacity demonstration project at the Shengli Oilfield, focusing on lower-concentration CO₂ sources. Together, these projects cover CO₂ capture from sources with different concentrations, enhanced oil recovery, and storage. Established in July 2025, the ICTO has 60 founding members, including companies, research institutions, and experts from more than 20 countries and regions. Sinopec will continue to work with the ICTO and its members to combine engineering experience with international research and support the development and application of CCUS technologies.
