The Icons Publishes New Report Highlighting Taiwan's Shift From Satellite Components to Integrated Systems

The Icons has published a new report examining Taiwan's evolving role in the global satellite industry, with a particular focus on the country's transition from supplying individual satellite components toward integrated ground equipment, communications systems and commercially deployable applications.
The report highlights the rapid development of Taiwan's satellite ground equipment sector and examines how local manufacturers and research institutions are expanding their capabilities to participate in higher-value segments of the global satellite supply chain. According to industry data cited in the report, Taiwan's satellite ground equipment industry generated more than NT$277.1 billion in output in 2025, representing annual growth of 13 percent. More than 55 Taiwanese companies have also entered international satellite supply chains, underscoring the industry's growing international presence.
The Icons developed the report to examine how Taiwan's existing strengths in ICT, advanced manufacturing and research are being translated into complete satellite-related systems and commercial applications. Rather than focusing solely on individual components, the report looks at the broader development of Taiwan's satellite ecosystem, including ground equipment, communications technologies, systems integration and commercialization.
A key focus of the report is the role of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in supporting this transition. ITRI has developed low-Earth orbit satellite ground equipment using self-developed array antenna RF chips and a beam-tracking algorithm. Its work has also supported Taiwanese ICT manufacturers in developing ground equipment architecture and interface design, strengthening independent technical capabilities and supporting the move toward mass production.
At the component and terminal level, Phasetrum Inc. has developed a Phase Tuner capable of synthesizing phase calibration across four antenna-array units, while Foremostar Technology is developing portable multi-orbit satellite communications terminals designed to address long-standing size, weight and power constraints. Foremostar integrates phased-array antennas, RF front ends, control algorithms and terminal mechanics, reducing overall power consumption by approximately 30 percent.
At the system-integration level, TMYTEK has developed a modular phased-array antenna architecture that integrates antennas, RF front ends and proprietary algorithms. The architecture is designed for multi-orbit ground-terminal applications, and the company's customer and market footprint extends across 35 countries.
Taiwan's capabilities are also extending from ground terminals into satellite platforms and complete communications links. Rapidtek has developed Ku- and Ka-band active electronically scanned array technology and, through its Black Kite program, launched the Black Kite 1 8U CubeSat in late 2025 and Black Kite 2 in March 2026 to strengthen a low-Earth orbit IoT constellation. PYRAS Technology combines satellite manufacturing, communications payloads and ground terminals, and is applying satellite technologies to smart-ocean services including remote sensing, marine data platforms and environmental monitoring.
The report also examines why systems integration is becoming increasingly important to Taiwan's position in the global satellite economy.
