The Canberra-based group said its Physical AI Platform would give the next generation of humanoid robots the situational awareness to work safely alongside people in factories, hospitals, warehouses and homes. The move applies the same human-sensing technology already fitted to more than eight million vehicles worldwide, where it watches drivers to anticipate risk and help prevent accidents. Founded in 2000, Seeing Machines has spent more than 25 years studying how machines interpret human behaviour, attention and cognitive state. Its new platform builds a dynamic three-dimensional map of people, objects and their surroundings, allowing robots to read spatial relationships and human behaviour in real time. Rather than simply recognising individual objects or following predefined tasks, the technology treats people and their environment as a single scene, the company said. Paul McGlone, chief executive, described the launch as a natural step in the company's long-running work on human-machine interaction. He said the technology already protecting millions of drivers would now let robots interact with people safely, naturally and intuitively. And he argued that as robots moved out of research labs and into factories, workplaces, hospitals and public spaces, understanding people mattered as much as performing the task itself.
