At the HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 event, a session titled "Intelligent WAN, Building an Intelligent Connectivity Foundation" brought together industry experts to discuss the importance and deployment of intelligent WAN networks in the AI era. Colin Hu, Vice President of Huawei's Global Public Sector BU, highlighted the challenges of expanding network coverage and enabling agile AI deployment, emphasizing the need for networks to balance inclusive coverage with intelligence. Dustin Kehoe, Head of AMEA Tech Research at GlobalData, stressed that AI requires a profound modernization of WAN architecture to handle unpredictable traffic peaks and massive, real-time data flows, advocating for distributed, edge-centric infrastructures. Ado, CEO of Huawei's Wide Area Network Domain, pointed out the shift in network paradigms driven by AI agents, moving from user-centric to agent-centric connections and from intense downstream to massive upstream traffic, underscoring the need for intelligent, proactive planning and precise flow-level guarantees to ensure intelligent, uninterrupted, and deterministic experiences for users and agents. The white paper and discussions emphasized the need for a global approach to network planning, prioritizing user experience, security, and core network equipment, including integrated security features, end-to-end encryption, and quantum-resistant links.
