The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries broke its five-session winning streak on Thursday morning, falling sharply as broader risk-off sentiment swept through the Australian market. The index opened at 3,374.10 and touched an early low of 3,371.40, wiping out its recent five-day gain and leaving it 0.53% lower over that period. Despite the weaker market backdrop, several small-cap resource companies released project updates. Lindian Resources Ltd (ASX:LIN, OTC:LINIF) has stockpiled around 125,000 tonnes of ore at its Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi, putting feedstock availability ahead of schedule as the operation moves towards commissioning. Mining is well established, with the Stage 1 pit open and 14 production blasts completed, while construction of the processing plant is continuing around the clock. Lindian is targeting site energisation during October, with first ore introduction and first production of monazite concentrate still targeted by the end of 2026. The company said the stockpile strategy was designed to remove mining from the commissioning critical path and provide consistent feed during plant start-up. Aruma Resources Ltd (ASX:AAJ) has agreed to acquire 32 additional mineral claims covering about 9.8 square kilometres adjacent to its Tillex Copper-Silver Project in Ontario.
