Elon Musk Says Starlink Now Beats Cable on Reliability

SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) built Starlink to connect places traditional broadband could not reach. Now CEO Elon Musk says the satellite network has crossed a more consequential threshold: Starlink is "now often more reliable than cable." The claim matters because reliability, rather than raw speed, could be what turns Starlink from a rural alternative into a broader broadband competitor.

Starlink Closes the Gap

Musk made the claim Friday on X, arguing that Starlink can now deliver a more dependable connection than cable in many cases. There is some independent evidence behind the broader point. A Recon Analytics survey of more than 153,000 broadband users found that Starlink customers reported fewer service outages than cable and DSL customers, although fiber customers experienced fewer outages than Starlink.
