Iofina PLC ( AIM:IOF OTC:IOFNF ) View Price & Profile Iofina commissions its largest iodine plant to date Published: 02:32 16 Oct 2026 EDT Iofina PLC (AIM:IOF, OTC:IOFNF) told investors it has commissioned its largest iodine production plant to date in the Permian Basin, marking a major expansion milestone even as lower brine supplies and project delays weighed on third-quarter output. The new plant, the first commercial-scale iodine production facility in the Permian Basin, is undergoing hydrotesting, with brine already flowing through its systems. Production is expected to begin and ramp up over the coming weeks. Western Midstream Partners will supply up to 50,000 barrels of produced water daily, supporting targeted annual iodine output of 170–220 tonnes. The company, meanwhile, in a separate statement, reported that it produced 205.2 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine in the three months to September, down 4.9% from 215.8 tonnes a year earlier and below expectations. Iofina now anticipates second-half production of around 440–455 tonnes, dependent on water supplies recovering and the contribution from its newly commissioned IO#12 facility. Iofina said production had been affected by lower water volumes, maintenance, delays to an additional pipeline at IO#11 and the timing of IO#12's commissioning. Water supplies in central Oklahoma were also disrupted by upgrades requiring temporary well closures, although volumes have since improved. Chief executive Dr Tom Becker said the company was "encouraged by the positive adjustments made by our water supply partners" as it works to restore previous supply levels. Despite the operational setbacks, iodine prices remain in the mid-US$70s per kilogram and above, providing a favourable backdrop for expansion following record financial performance in the first half. The company has also secured agreements to build two further plants, IO#13 and IO#14, in central Oklahoma, with construction expected to begin shortly and completion targeted by the end of the first half of 2027. Both projects form part of Iofina's strategy to reach annual production of 2,000 tonnes. Continue reading
