Round Hill Sues Suno, Anthropic — Illegally Scraped Music Isn't Fair Use

Round Hill Music, a music publisher with a $1.1 billion catalog, has filed two significant copyright lawsuits against AI firms Suno and Anthropic. The lawsuits, filed on August 17, 2026, allege that both companies illegally trained their AI models on Round Hill's copyrighted music and lyrics by scraping content from the internet without permission. Round Hill is seeking over $1 billion in damages and accuses Suno of DMCA violations, also naming data-scraping firm Bright Data as a co-defendant. The company's CEO has stated they will not settle, and their attorney argues that the AI training constitutes illegal acquisition rather than fair use. This legal action challenges the fair use defenses commonly asserted by AI companies.
