Ocean Power Technologies Inc ( NYSE-A:OPTT ) View Price & Profile Ocean Power Technologies advances US Army trials – ICYMI Published: 08:37 12 Sep 2026 EDT Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) earlier this week highlighted its expanding operational work with the U.S. Army and NATO as CEO Philipp Stratmann outlined how real-world deployments could support the company’s efforts to build backlog and generate additional revenue. Stratmann told Proactive that Ocean Power Technologies was working with the U.S. Army in North Carolina on coastal trials involving vehicles operating through the surf zone. He described the surf zone as a demanding but strategically important environment, representing the point at which maritime and land operations meet. Potential applications include supporting beach access and protection and ensuring surrounding waters are clear of hazards such as dangerous debris and mines. Stratmann said the trials required more than simply demonstrating that a vehicle could navigate difficult conditions. Ocean Power Technologies’ drones also needed to carry payloads, deploy sensors, collect information and provide resulting data to the end customer. “Proven systems will beat paper studies all day, every day,” Stratmann said, adding that reaching this stage required thousands of hours of development work, investment in systems and the creation of safe operating procedures. Alongside its U.S. Army activity, the company was participating in a NATO exercise in Europe, meaning its vehicles were operating on two continents during the same week. Stratmann said several vehicles were being used in European demonstrations covering applications including port security, mine countermeasures, elements of anti-submarine warfare and logistics support. For investors, a key potential catalyst highlighted in the interview is the ability to translate these operational demonstrations into commercial activity. Stratmann said having operational staff and systems that could be deployed at short notice was getting Ocean Power Technologies to a point where it could “create then more backlog, which we can then create and turn into more revenues.” He also pointed to increased attention on maritime safety and defense, saying he had not previously seen the current level of focus during a career spent around shipyards, naval activities and oil and gas. Stratmann said greater awareness of the complexity of maritime security was developing alongside the need for solutions that remain cost-efficient, particularly given the importance of ocean transport to everyday goods.
