Mondi PLC ( LSE:MNDI ) View Price & Profile Mondi drops 10% as Panmure Liberium flags forecast pressure Published: 05:00 15 Oct 2026 EDT Mondi PLC (LSE:MNDI) shares fell 10% to 736.80p after its third-quarter update showed weaker underlying EBITDA and a forestry outlook that Panmure Liberium expected to pressure consensus forecasts. The broker listed a ‘buy’ rating and a target of 1,103 pence, while highlighting delays in passing on higher input costs. Its forestry concern reflected management’s earlier expectation of a second-half gain, yet Mondi expects no fourth-quarter forestry fair value gain if prevailing energy prices persist. The quarterly figures showed underlying EBITDA falling 12.1% year on year to €196 million from €223 million, with the previous year’s quarter including €20 million of forestry gains. Although EBITDA rose from €167 million in the second quarter, that period included a €43 million forestry fair value loss. Excluding forestry movements, Panmure Liberium calculated a 7% sequential decline, primarily reflecting planned maintenance shutdowns. Alongside that maintenance impact, higher energy and wood costs remained a challenge, while competitive pressure and delayed recovery of paper price increases affected Corrugated Solutions margins. To improve efficiency, Mondi is transferring customer volumes from plants scheduled to close this year and sold one solid board converting plant in late September, agreeing a second sale. Despite these pressures, Panmure Liberium highlighted ‘paperisation’, growing e-commerce and fast-moving consumer goods demand, and a well-invested flexible packaging business positioned to benefit from recovery. Mondi expects further paper price increases announced during the quarter to benefit performance towards the end of 2026 and into 2027. Panmure Liberium said it would review its estimates after the results call. Continue reading
