NDIV Capitalizes on Sector Rebound & Option Income Strategy

Sentiment Analysis
For investors navigating a changing rate environment, derivative income strategies remain a compelling tool for generating alternative cash flows beyond standard fixed income. The Amplify Energy & Natural Resources Covered Call ETF (NDIV) demonstrated the strength of this approach in the third quarter of 2026, capitalizing on a sharp rebound in energy and natural resources equities.
The Amplify Energy & Natural Resources Covered Call ETF (NDIV) surged 5.5% in Q3, bringing year-to-date gains for investors to 31.3%. Tracking the VettaFi Energy and Natural Resources Covered Call Index, NDIV utilizes an 80% maximum option coverage ratio to target a 6% annualized option premium (50 bps monthly) while retaining equity upside. As of September 30, NDIV delivered an 11.31% annualized distribution rate alongside a 5.65% 30-day SEC yield.
NDIV tracks the VettaFi Energy and Natural Resources Covered Call Index, targeting dividend-paying U.S.-listed equities across energy, chemicals, agriculture, metals and mining, paper products, and timber. Specifically, the index methodology layers a systematic monthly covered call strategy over its equity portfolio to harvest option volatility and enhance total distributions.
The index methodology balances income generation with capital appreciation potential. As a result, by capping its option coverage ratio at 80%, NDIV targets a monthly option premium of 50 basis points (6.00% annualized) while leaving at least 20% of its equity portfolio unhedged to participate in significant sector rallies.
During the third quarter, NDIV delivered a 5.5% return, bringing its year-to-date performance to 31.30%, handily outpacing the broader U.S. market. Furthermore, a favorable macroeconomic backdrop — characterized by crude oil trading in the $85–95/bbl range, stabilizing regional natural gas prices, and rising gold prices — provided broad tailwinds for mining and upstream energy holdings.
Top performers included Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR) (+32.95%), which led index contribution (+1.17%) on strong offshore pre-salt production and substantial dividend payouts. Northern Oil & Gas, Inc. (NOG) (+28.56%) and Crescent Energy Co. (CRGY) (+21.04%) also drove performance through Permian Basin production growth.
With an expense ratio of 0.59%, NDIV closed the third quarter offering an 11.31% distribution rate and a 5.65% 30-day SEC yield, positioning it as a specialized yield sleeve within the cyclical energy and materials sectors.
