Δ The project is designed to prompt new lending, underwriting and other financial activities while promoting investment and critical sectors, the Toronto-based TD announced Monday Sept. 14. “Canada is entering a defining period of investment and industrial growth that will shape the country’s economy for decades to come,” Raymond Chun , the bank’s president and CEO, said in a news release. “TD will connect investors with opportunity, help businesses scale and strengthen the sectors critical to Canada’s next era of growth. We are mobilizing our resources and capabilities to help clients and communities realize the full potential of the economic supercycle.” The release cites a recent report from TD Economics called “ Triggering a Canadian Investment Supercycle ,” which estimates that $719 billion (1 trillion Canadian dollars) in new investments across more than 300 projects are already approved or pending through 2035 in five key sectors. TD’s efforts are designed to increase its focus on enhancing economic participation to strengthen long-term growth, including by supporting small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as well as providing help for Indigenous peoples, organizations and communities “as they pursue economic development opportunities, grow businesses, build community prosperity and participate in major projects.” In other TD news, the bank announced recently it had delivered 195 million Canadian dollars (about $141 million) in artificial intelligence value in the first three quarters of its fiscal year 2026, a move that puts the lender ahead of the pace required to achieve its fiscal year target of 200 million Canadian dollars (about $144 million). “We expect to extract further value through the remainder of the year across predictive, generative and agentic AI use cases,” Chun said. TD also announced last month it had successfully carried out a tokenized payments test on the Project Agorá platform, transmitting between TD New York Branch (TD Securities LLC) and TD Bank, N.A., in partnership with Bank of New York (BNY). Project Agorá , a public-private program established by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the Institute of International Finance, revolves around the tokenization of wholesale cross-border payments. TD said the test demonstrates the ability to issue tokenized money on the Agorá platform and facilitate the instant movement of funds with atomic settlement, between the two TD entities with BNY acting as the clearing bank/intermediary.
